For games that get out of hand, should there be a mercy rule (for example at intermission or at a certain point in the second half)?

No , we got to stop protecting others from losing , it's a fact of life and will happen. Occasionally the very bad play the very good and a lop-sided game is the result, coaches can work at kepping the score down , but don't tell the kid who is playing his butt off that he can't play the last 40 minutes because his team isn't good enough . Which is worth losing 13 - o and they tried there best or 10 - 0 after a half a game and saying you suck to even be ont the field for another half. Games with time limits should not have mercy tules and should be left to the coaches to control the situation , how the handle it will tell more about there character than trying to protect someone from defeat.

Zigmund, you are right about how we try to protect the kids, etc. but sometimes the coaches don't know better and don't put in the reserves to give them a chance.
